Mercedes-Benz has expanded its partnership with the Taiwanese energy firm ProLogium to accelerate the development of solid-state battery technology. Under the new agreement, the automaker gains priority access to test ProLogium's fourth-generation lithium ceramic battery cells, which utilize non-flammable inorganic electrolytes and ceramic separator technology.
The testing process will involve electrical, thermal, and safety evaluations conducted at Mercedes-Benz facilities and third-party institutes. ProLogium is currently preparing to establish a production site in Dunkirk, France, with a planned capacity of up to 44 GWh to supply European customers, including Mercedes-Benz.
Beyond its collaboration with ProLogium, Mercedes-Benz continues to work with the American company Factorial Energy. Last year, a Mercedes-Benz EQS prototype equipped with Factorial's lithium-metal battery cells completed a test drive covering 748.8 miles on a single charge, with an estimated remaining range of 85 miles.
