MegaFon has introduced a new set of options designed to increase mobile internet speeds for devices that lack native 5G support. The service is also available in areas where 5G infrastructure has not yet been deployed, allowing users to achieve higher data transfer rates regardless of their smartphone model.

The base option provides a 1.6x increase in mobile internet speed and is compatible with all devices, including iPhones. Users can activate these settings through the official MegaFon website or via the company's mobile application. The operator has not disclosed the specific technical methods used to achieve this performance boost.

This update coincides with the expansion of 5G networks in Russia, which are now operational in 16 cities as of September. The list includes Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Samara, Yaroslavl, Ufa, Volgograd, Krasnoyarsk, Perm, Chelyabinsk, Veliky Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod, Tver, and Krasnodar.

The development of 5G infrastructure in these regions is being carried out by major local operators, including MTS, MegaFon, Beeline, and T2. However, the availability of specific providers varies depending on the city. Previously, MTS noted that users might not experience a significant speed increase immediately following the initial 5G rollout.
