McLaren has officially registered the names Remuera and Muriwai as trademarks in the United Kingdom and the European Union. The filings were submitted to the UK Intellectual Property Office on September 21, 2026. These terms are deeply rooted in the history of the company founder, Bruce McLaren.

The name Remuera refers to the Auckland suburb where Bruce McLaren spent his youth and where his parents operated a family garage. The signage from this specific garage served as the primary inspiration for the brand's recently updated wordmark. Muriwai represents the beach hillclimb location where Bruce McLaren participated in his first competitive race in 1952 at the age of 15.

Despite the trademark registrations, the automaker has not linked either name to any future vehicle models, specific badges, or production programs. The company emphasizes that its recent announcements focus solely on the visual identity refresh, which incorporates elements from the 1981 McLaren International logo and the iconic Speedmark.

Industry observers note that automakers frequently reserve potential names years in advance without necessarily using them for future production cars. McLaren has not confirmed whether these trademarks indicate a shift away from its current alphanumeric naming convention, such as the 750S series, and no official reports have connected these names to upcoming vehicle generations.
