Matter Labs has released the core permissioning engine of its enterprise blockchain platform, Prividium, under the Apache 2.0 license. The code, which includes one main application and six packages, became available on GitHub on September 8, 2026.

The Deutsche Bundesbank is currently testing a self-hosted instance of the platform in collaboration with Matter Labs. This deployment focuses on design and testing, marking an initial step for the central bank's engagement with the technology.

While the engine is now open-source, Matter Labs retains proprietary control over its enterprise deployment tools and user interfaces. The company continues to monetize these supplementary services, maintaining a model where the core infrastructure is free while commercial tools remain paid.

The permissioning engine manages access control on private chains, a critical requirement for regulated institutions. By making this layer public, Matter Labs aims to address institutional concerns regarding vendor lock-in, allowing organizations to independently verify and maintain their infrastructure.
