Mastercard is integrating the Open USD (OUSD) stablecoin into its business offerings via BVNK, an infrastructure firm acquired by the card giant on August 3, 2026. The acquisition deal reached a total value of up to $1.8 billion, consisting of a $1.5 billion base price and $300 million in contingent payments.
Launched on September 30, 2026, by the Open Standard consortium, OUSD is a dollar-pegged token that operates on the Base, Ethereum, Solana, and Tempo blockchains. Mastercard acts as a distributor rather than an issuer, leveraging the existing infrastructure of BVNK to facilitate transactions.
BVNK currently operates in over 130 countries and processes approximately $30 billion in annual stablecoin payment volume. The firm holds more than 25 regulatory licenses, including a MiCA license for the European Union, which provides Mastercard with established regulatory compliance in key markets.
The Open Standard consortium includes more than 200 member companies that have committed over $1 billion in near-term liquidity to support the token. This collaborative model aims to distribute liquidity requirements and strategic influence across a broad group of participants.
