Marathon Digital Holdings, a publicly traded Bitcoin miner, has acquired 1,292 BTC for approximately $98.6 million. The transaction, which occurred on September 15, 2026, was executed through the institutional prime broker FalconX at an average price of $76,347 per coin.
This acquisition follows a period of divestment earlier in 2026. During the first quarter, the company sold roughly 20,880 BTC for about $1.5 billion to fund operational expenses, liquidity management, and investments in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure.
The company's holdings decreased significantly during the first quarter of 2026, falling from approximately 53,822 BTC at the end of 2025 to about 35,303 BTC by March 2026. This reduction represented a decline of more than one-third of its total reserves.
The September purchase is the second instance of accumulation this year. In June 2026, the company acquired 1,000 BTC, also utilizing the services of FalconX. These transactions suggest a shift in strategy toward rebuilding reserves after the earlier sell-off.
As of early 2026, the value of the company's Bitcoin treasury was estimated between $2.4 billion and $2.7 billion. This valuation positions Marathon Digital as one of the largest corporate holders of Bitcoin globally, competing with MicroStrategy for the second-place ranking.
