Mach Industries, a defense manufacturer founded by 22-year-old Ethan Thornton, has secured $600 million in a new funding round. This investment brings the company's valuation to $3.7 billion, doubling its June valuation of $1.8 billion. The total size of the Series C round has now reached $900 million, pushing the company's lifetime funding beyond $1 billion.

The funding round was supported by existing investors, including Ribbit Capital, Infinite Capital, Bedrock Capital, and Sequoia Capital. These firms also participated in the initial June tranche. The capital will be used to expand production capacity and accelerate the transition of new platforms from development to manufacturing at the company's 115 000-square-foot headquarters in California.

The company operates through specialized units, including Mach Energetics, which was formed following the acquisition of rocket motor startup Exquadrum for approximately $50 million in May. This unit supplies rocket motors to external customers. A second unit, Mach Propulsion, focuses on jet engine development. The firm also holds a Defense Innovation Unit contract for the Atlas maritime strike aircraft.

The defense sector is seeing significant capital inflows, with companies like Anduril, Shield AI, and Hadrian securing multi-billion dollar valuations this year. While Mach Industries scales its operations, the industry faces ongoing questions regarding whether current manufacturing volumes can match the aggressive valuations set by venture capital investors.
