Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) has officially received a permit for L3 autonomous driving road tests for its Luxeed RX model. Richard Yu, Chairman of the Terminal BG, confirmed that the vehicle is currently undergoing systematic testing on urban expressways and other complex road environments.

Recent footage shared by industry observers shows the Luxeed RX L3 test vehicle operating on public roads. The testing focuses on high-frequency traffic scenarios, including merging, lane weaving, cut-ins, and handling significant variations in vehicle speeds to refine the system's performance in real-world conditions.

The vehicle features a dedicated 'A' button on the steering wheel that activates the L3 autonomous mode, indicated by a blue light. When engaged, the system provides voice notifications via the Xiaoyi assistant, while the central control screen displays a status message confirming that the vehicle is in L3 autonomous driving mode.

Prior to public road trials, the Luxeed RX underwent extensive simulation and closed-course testing. These evaluations covered seven key scenarios, including traffic signal recognition, obstacle detection, pedestrian and non-motorized vehicle identification, emergency avoidance maneuvers, risk mitigation strategies, and dynamic driving task intervention.
