Lumen is a database monitoring system designed as an alternative to Spotlight for SQL Enterprise. The architecture includes a Diagnostic Server installed on a Windows host, which connects to target servers without requiring agent installation on those targets.
The system currently supports SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Windows, monitoring sessions, locks, memory, disks, backups, high availability, and replication. Support for Linux and MySQL is planned for future updates.
The Lumen Diagnostic Server (LDS) utilizes 137 collectors and 100 out-of-the-box alert rules. Data collection frequency varies, with sessions and locks monitored every 30 seconds, while database lists and files are updated hourly.
A Playback feature allows users to view the server state at a specific time, including metrics, active sessions, queries, and execution plans, to facilitate post-mortem incident analysis.
The system integrates an AI Operator consisting of Watchers and a Supervisor. Watchers use a local Llama 3.1 LLM with RAG to monitor hosts, while the Supervisor performs primary analysis and communicates findings to the user via chat.
