A camouflaged prototype of the Lucid Cosmos midsize SUV was spotted on Highway 101 in Morgan Hill, California. The vehicle features a sloping roofline, a rear spoiler, and thin red light strips, matching the design registered in Europe earlier this year.

The Cosmos is designed with a 69 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 300 miles. Lucid claims the vehicle achieves an efficiency of 4.5 miles per kWh and can add 200 miles of range in 14 minutes using the new Atlas drive unit, which contains 30% fewer parts.

Lucid CEO Silvio Napoli delayed the production of the Cosmos to the second half of 2027 to ensure product readiness. The company previously targeted a late 2026 launch. The SUV is expected to have a starting price below $50,000.

The company faces significant financial pressure, having reduced its workforce by 18% in June. While Lucid maintains it has sufficient liquidity to operate into 2027, the delayed launch of the Cosmos coincides with the timeline for its current cash reserves.
