Lucid and Bolt have formed a strategic partnership to launch autonomous robotaxi services across Europe. Bolt plans to deploy at least 25 000 electric vehicles built on Lucid’s upcoming midsize platform. These vehicles will be designed for SAE Level 4 autonomous driving, utilizing the Nvidia Hyperion software architecture as a foundation.
Bolt aims to operate a total of 100 000 autonomous vehicles on its platform by 2035. The company will own and manage the fleet through its Bolt Autonomous Driving Solutions unit, handling infrastructure, software requirements, and collaboration with local authorities. Bolt currently operates in over 850 cities across 50 countries.
Lucid has established a new unit, Lucid Technologies, to focus on artificial intelligence and autonomous driving solutions for this partnership. The manufacturer is also currently undergoing internal restructuring, including an 18 percent reduction in its US workforce under CEO Silvio Napoli. Lucid previously suspended its 2026 production forecast.
The collaboration will utilize Lucid’s new Atlas electric drivetrain for its midsize platform. While the partners have not yet set a timeline for deployment, they intend to work with European regulators to meet the requirements of the UNECE framework for automated driving systems. Specific European launch cities remain unconfirmed.
