Lucid and Bolt have formed a strategic partnership to launch autonomous mobility services in Europe. Bolt plans to deploy at least 25,000 electric vehicles based on Lucid’s upcoming midsize platform, which will feature SAE Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities.
The vehicles will utilize the Nvidia Hyperion platform as their software foundation. Bolt’s specialized unit, Bolt Autonomous Driving Solutions, will manage fleet infrastructure and city collaborations, while Lucid has created a new unit, Lucid Technologies, to focus on AI and autonomous software.
Bolt aims to operate a total of 100,000 autonomous vehicles on its platform by 2035. The company currently operates in over 850 cities across more than 50 countries, providing services such as ride-hailing, e-scooters, and car-sharing.
Lucid is currently undergoing restructuring under CEO Silvio Napoli, including an 18 percent workforce reduction in the US. The company previously suspended its 2026 production forecast for the Gravity SUV due to supplier issues and denied bankruptcy rumors.
The partners intend to work with European regulators to navigate the UNECE framework for Automated Driving Systems. While the framework provides a foundation for vehicle safety and validation, specific timelines for the deployment of the fleet remain undisclosed.
