Longi Green Energy has announced a new world record for crystalline silicon solar cell efficiency, reaching 28.29 percent. The result was officially certified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin, Germany, on September 24.
This achievement marks the third time this year that the company has broken its own efficiency record. Previously, Longi reached efficiency levels of 28.04 percent and 28.13 percent. The current figure represents 96.2 percent of the theoretical limit for this technology.
The record-breaking HIBC cell utilizes a composite passivation back-contact design. According to the company, the development involved comprehensive upgrades in structural design, core material preparation, and production processes.
Alongside the cell technology, Longi unveiled solar modules based on the HIBC platform with a power output exceeding 700W. The company confirmed that this technology has successfully transitioned from research to mass production.
