The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has commissioned 30 Enviro100EV battery-electric midibuses from Alexander Dennis. This purchase is part of a larger order for 207 vehicles valued at £57 million, with deliveries expected in 2027.
The contract includes 177 low-emission combustion buses, which can be retrofitted to electric propulsion later. The agreement features options to expand the total order to 357 buses, potentially increasing the contract value to £95 million.
The Enviro100EV model is 8.5 metres long and carries up to 45 passengers. It features a Voith Electrical Drive System with 250 kW peak power and offers battery capacities of 354 kWh or 236 kWh, providing ranges of up to 450 or 300 kilometres respectively.
These 30 units bring the total number of electric buses ordered by Liverpool from Alexander Dennis to 88, following a previous order for 58 Enviro400EV double-deckers. All vehicles will be manufactured at facilities in England and Scotland.
The procurement supports the region's transition to a franchise-based public transport model. The fleet expansion is funded by the £1.6 billion Transport for City Region programme, which also covers depot upgrades and ticketing systems.
