The LineageOS team has officially released version 24 of its custom Android operating system, which is built upon Android 17. Development began following the release of Android 17 in June, with the team leveraging experience from previous system refactors to accelerate the integration process.
The update includes a transition to Material Design 3 Expressive for several built-in applications, such as the Jelly browser, the Catapult Android TV launcher, and the Canvas image editor. Furthermore, the developers have implemented significant layout optimizations specifically designed for tablet and television interfaces.
Security patches ranging from August 2025 to October 2026 have been integrated into versions 18.1 through 24.0. For legacy branches, including 15.1, 16.0, and 17.1, the team has incorporated security patches up to November 2025.
To simplify the installation process, the project is introducing browser-based flashing tools. These utilities utilize WebUSB to communicate directly with compatible devices via ADB and Fastboot, eliminating the need for users to download and configure standalone flashing software.
