Light has introduced a new Rideshare tool for its Light Phone III and the upcoming Light Flip devices. This integration allows users to book Uber and Lyft rides, view fares, check driver arrival times, and manage saved locations directly from their minimalist handsets.
The feature operates through a partnership with Tremp, a service that provides SMS-based ride requests. Users must configure access via the Light dashboard website. The tool is part of a broader effort to expand the LightOS tool library through a new SDK.
While the service is not free, Tremp applies a 10 percent service fee with a $2 minimum per booking. New users are exempt from this fee for their first five rides within 30 days of account creation.
Light plans to open user submissions for its tool library by the end of this month. The company aims to make these community-developed features available to all users shortly thereafter, focusing on essential functions without adding distracting notifications.
