Recent analysis of iOS 27 code and LG device firmware reveals that upcoming smart home accessories from LG may support a new Apple HomeKit feature. This functionality allows users to configure devices like smart locks and thermostats without needing to power them on first.

The process utilizes NFC technology to pre-write pairing identities and network credentials, including Wi-Fi and Thread, directly from an iPhone to the device. Once the hardware is powered on, it automatically joins the network and completes the Matter configuration through the home hub.

Technically, the feature relies on Apple's private CoreHAP API, specifically the HAPNFCReaderSession. The integration involves the NXP SE051H secure element found in the firmware of LG locks and thermostats, which replaces the standard Matter NFC applet with a proprietary HomeKit version.
