London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has announced plans to launch a next-generation plug-in black cab in the UK market. The production of the new vehicle is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027.
The company has already completed the assembly of a prototype for the upcoming model. Currently, LEVC is preparing its manufacturing facility located in Ansty, Warwickshire, to support the new production line.
Since the introduction of the plug-in TX taxi in 2018, LEVC has sold over 12 000 units globally. The current TX model utilizes the proprietary eCity powertrain, which functions as a range-extended electric vehicle.
The development of the new taxi follows the Metropolitan Conditions of Fitness established by Transport for London. While early design sketches have been shared, specific technical details remain undisclosed.
The parent company, Geely Group, has invested £1 billion into LEVC since 2013. CEO Tony Chi stated that the new model will focus on design and sustainability while maintaining the core features of the current TX.
