Leapmotor and FAW Group have formalized a new stage of their partnership by signing investment and technical agreements in Huzhou. Leapmotor intends to become a strategic investor in FAW's subsidiary, Qixin Power, focusing on the development of hybrid engines, electric drive systems, and range extenders.

The collaboration also extends to battery technology through an agreement with FAW's subsidiary, China Auto New Energy. The companies plan to conduct joint research on solid-state batteries, lithium-rich manganese-based batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and ultra-fast charging lithium iron phosphate cells.

These agreements follow a broader strategic cooperation framework signed by the two companies in August 2024. The partnership encompasses various areas, including intelligent driving, smart chassis, lightweight components, and embodied AI robotics.

The relationship between the two automakers dates back to March 2025, when they signed an initial memorandum of understanding. A joint project involving a Hongqi overseas vehicle model was initiated in April 2025, with mass production and international market launch scheduled for the second half of 2026.
