The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority has signed a contract with ENC for the delivery of 220 AXESS EVO-BE electric buses. The deal is valued at $337.7 million and represents the largest order for 40-foot battery-electric buses by a US transit agency to date.

The agreement, approved by the LA Metro Board on September 24, includes options for up to 1,600 additional units. The buses are scheduled for delivery before the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, supporting the agency's goal to transition its entire fleet to zero-emission vehicles by 2030.

The AXESS EVO-BE buses feature BAE Systems’ Gen 3 electric drive and battery storage capacity of up to 738 kWh. Depending on the configuration, the vehicles offer an estimated range between 174 and 250 miles. Production will take place at the 227,000-square-foot ENC facility in Jurupa Valley, California.

ENC has previously partnered with Proterra for battery supplies and InductEV for wireless charging systems capable of 450 kW power delivery. This order is part of a broader electrification effort in Los Angeles, which also includes the deployment of 500 electric school buses by Highland Electric Fleets for the 2028 Games.
