The open-source KytyPS5 emulator, developed in C++, has reached a new milestone. The project is currently in its early stages of development, but it has demonstrated the ability to run the PlayStation 5 exclusive title Astro's Playroom.
Astro's Playroom is a free game pre-installed on non-Chinese PS5 consoles. It serves as a technical showcase for the hardware capabilities of the console and the DualSense controller.
YouTube creator Unreal Gaming tested the emulator using an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor paired with an Nvidia RTX 4080 graphics card. The demonstration showed that the game can reach the main menu and is playable.
Despite the progress, the emulator faces performance challenges. During the test, the frame rate frequently dropped below 30 FPS, and some visual effects caused noticeable slowdowns in the game.
