On September 8, Kraken announced withdrawal delays affecting 23 of its services due to funding issues. This followed a deposit freeze that began on September 4 and impacted more than 20 blockchain networks, leaving some users unable to move funds for nearly a week.
The exchange's status page reported degraded performance in its funding infrastructure. While a complete list of affected assets and a resolution timeline were not provided, Kraken confirmed that Akash, Cosmos, Celestia, and dYdX networks were among those impacted.
Core trading operations remained functional throughout the disruption. Order books, price feeds, and trade execution continued to operate without interruption, allowing active traders to maintain their positions.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of operational instability. Kraken has recorded dozens of operational incidents in the weeks preceding the September 8 announcement, with previous disruptions involving tokens such as Cronos.
Kraken's parent company, Payward, is currently pursuing integration with traditional finance. The company's goals include working with tokenized assets and establishing connectivity to the Nasdaq and London Stock Exchange, alongside discussions regarding a potential IPO.
