The independent game studio KO_OP, known for titles like GNOG and Young Souls, has announced a reduction in its workforce. The company plans to lay off 13 staff members over the next few months to ensure its continued operation.

According to the studio, the process was handled through a democratic approach. Employees appointed a representative group to plan the layoffs, and the entire team subsequently ratified the decision. The cuts affect all levels of the organization, including team leads and executives.

KO_OP stated that the decision was necessary for the studio's survival rather than for profit maximization. The team was reportedly informed of the company's financial situation and the upcoming layoffs well in advance.

Despite the staff reductions, the studio remains legally obligated to pay out profit shares from the game Young Souls to the affected employees. The title is currently available exclusively on the Xbox Game Pass platform.
