Kioxia has introduced its first solid-state drive in the EDSFF E1.L form factor, designated as the LD4 series. The new drives utilize the company's eighth-generation 218-layer BiCS FLASH QLC NAND memory technology.
The LD4 series is engineered for high-density 1U servers and read-intensive storage applications, specifically targeting hyperscale data center workloads and scale-out environments.
The devices feature a PCIe Gen5 x4 interface and comply with NVMe 2.0e and OCP Data Center NVMe SSD 2.6 specifications. The drives are currently available in 15.36TB and 30.72TB capacities, with plans to expand to 122.88TB in the future.
Kioxia has begun shipping samples of the LD4 series to select customers. The company intends to showcase the new SSD hardware at the upcoming OCP Global Summit, scheduled for the middle of this month.
