Kevin O'Leary is shifting his investment strategy by allocating approximately 5% of his portfolio to rare sports cards. His investment group, which includes collector Shyne and entrepreneur Paul Warshaw, has already deployed roughly $100 million into this asset class. The group manages these holdings under the name WonderShyne Index.

The group recently acquired a unique sports card featuring pieces of a game-worn jersey from Shohei Ohtani for $11 million. This rare item was discovered by a teenager in a shop located in Boca Raton, Florida. O'Leary announced the transaction during an appearance on CNBC last Tuesday.

O'Leary justifies the move by comparing the scarcity of collectibles to Bitcoin, citing concerns over the US M2 money supply, which reached $23.22 trillion in July. He views these cards as an alternative asset class that cannot be inflated by central banks.

The portfolio includes high-value items such as a Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant card, which Card Ladder currently values at approximately $17.05 million, up from an initial cost of $12.93 million. Despite these paper gains, O'Leary maintains that he has no plans to sell the asset.

While O'Leary has reduced his cryptocurrency holdings to three positions, with Bitcoin and Ether accounting for 90% of that exposure, he continues to manage the entry rules for his sports card index. It remains unclear whether the public will eventually gain access to invest in the WonderShyne Index.
