Finnish charging technology provider Kempower has secured a framework agreement to supply high-speed electric vehicle charging infrastructure and services to all DP World terminal operations across Canada. The deal follows a successful pilot installation at the Global Container Terminals facility in Vancouver, British Columbia, completed earlier this month.
The new infrastructure is designed to support the electrification of port equipment, allowing for opportunity charging during shift changes and breaks. According to GCT operations technology manager Kyron Harvett, this approach maximizes equipment availability while minimizing operational disruptions. A recent multi-day trial of a heavy-duty electric terminal tractor at the GCT site demonstrated near-total uptime.
DP World Canada CEO Doug Smith stated that the partnership provides a scalable platform to support current operations while offering the flexibility to electrify additional equipment in the future. The initiative aligns with broader industry trends where logistics fleets are increasingly adopting electric yard trucks to reduce reliance on diesel fuel and mitigate volatile fuel costs.
