A Kaspersky study conducted in March 2026 surveyed 7,200 respondents across 18 countries, including Russia. The findings indicate that users prioritize digital hygiene on smartphones over personal computers, largely due to different usage patterns and memory constraints on mobile devices.
Statistics show that 77% of users update smartphone operating systems and apps, compared to 53% for PCs. Similarly, 72% of smartphone owners regularly delete unnecessary photos and videos, while only 49% of PC users do the same. Unused software is removed by 73% of mobile users and 47% of PC owners.
Basic security measures are implemented less frequently than hygiene practices. Only 33% of users change passwords on smartphones, and 31% do so on PCs. Backup creation is performed by 29% of smartphone users and 28% of PC users, while privacy settings are managed by 20% and 16% of respondents, respectively.
Kaspersky experts emphasize that neglecting digital hygiene on computers increases the risk of data leaks and performance issues. While 58% of users rely on smartphones as their primary internet device, PCs remain the main tool for work and for 58% of users aged 61 and older.
