Kaleidescape has released the Compact Terra Prime, a high-capacity media server designed for home theaters. The device features two enterprise-grade 123TB SSDs, providing a total storage capacity of 246TB. This allows the server to store up to 4,000 standard 4K movies, 2,300 4K Cinematic or 8K movies, or 6,800 HD movies.

The server is built from aluminum and weighs less than 2 kilograms. Its dimensions are 7.87 x 1.52 x 10 inches. Cooling is handled by two fans with a maximum noise level of 20 dB. For connectivity, the device includes a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port, which the company claims can download a 4K movie in 4 minutes at full throughput.

The system supports up to 25 simultaneous 4K playback instances. To use the server, a proprietary Kaleidescape media player is required, such as the Strato V, which has 960 GB of onboard storage. Content is sourced from the company's own online store, where 4K Cinematic movies are provided with a 110 Mbps bitrate, 4:4:4 chroma subsampling, and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

The Compact Terra Prime is available now through select partners on a made-to-order basis. While the company did not disclose the MSRP for this model, its 120TB SSD server is currently priced at $34,995.
