KakaoPay Securities, which manages approximately 9 million brokerage accounts in South Korea, is developing blockchain-based infrastructure to tokenize local stocks. The initiative aims to provide international investors with direct access to the Korean equity market.
The company has partnered with US-based firm Dinari to develop the technical architecture for tokenization. Dinari utilizes a dShares custodial model, which ensures that each token is backed one-to-one by the underlying asset, granting holders rights to dividends and voting.
Additionally, KakaoPay Securities is collaborating with the American broker-dealer Siebert Financial to launch the K-Stock Global Gateway. This project will serve as a distribution channel for Korean equities within the United States.
The companies plan to launch the gateway in the first half of 2027. This infrastructure is expected to allow US investors to trade Korean stocks with the same ease as domestic assets, potentially including extended trading hours.
