Chrysler has issued a recall for 201,976 Jeep SUVs due to a software flaw in the tire pressure monitoring system. The error can prevent the warning light from activating when tire pressure drops to dangerous levels, violating federal safety requirements for vehicle monitoring systems.
The recall campaign, registered under NHTSA number 26V559000, affects various models including the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and Cherokee. Chrysler states that the issue stems from specific control modules failing to register low-pressure events.
Dealers will perform a free software update to reflash the TPMS control module. The procedure requires no hardware or sensor replacements and typically takes less than an hour to complete. Owners will begin receiving notification letters starting September 29.
Vehicle owners can verify if their specific SUV is included in the campaign by checking their vehicle identification number through the NHTSA recall database. This action is recommended for owners who wish to address the issue before receiving official mail.
