JEDEC Solid State Technology Association has released the JESD264 standard, marking the first industry-wide specification for silicon photonics reliability and qualification. The new framework addresses the previous lack of standardized validation methods, which created uncertainty across the supply chain.
The standard establishes common benchmarks for testing and manufacturing controls. It covers complex photonic chipsets, including lasers, modulators, photodiodes, and passive optical structures. By defining these requirements, the protocol aims to lower deployment risks for high-speed data centers, telecommunications, and AI networks.
JESD264 clarifies the reliability responsibilities for foundries, outsourced assembly and test providers, and system developers. It provides comprehensive guidelines for component-level qualification, including specific requirements for assembly processes, laser integration, production control, and traceability.
