Bitcoin is currently trading between $77,000 and $79,000. The asset is facing pressure as Japan's 10-year government bond yield reached 3% for the first time since 1996, while 30-year yields are approaching 4.18-4.205%.

The Japanese yen has strengthened significantly, with the USD/JPY exchange rate falling from over 160 to approximately 153.9-154.3. The Bank of Japan's policy rate is now 1%, the highest level since 1995, following a rate hike in June 2026.

Coordinated currency interventions between the US and Japan have reportedly involved around $96 billion. Meanwhile, the total volume of yen-funded carry trades is estimated to be as large as $500 billion.

Historical data shows that sharp yen appreciation has previously led to Bitcoin price drawdowns of up to 20%. A similar drop from current levels would bring the price down to approximately $62,000.

The next major catalyst is the Bank of Japan meeting scheduled for September 17-18. Markets are anticipating further tightening, which could lead to more yen strength and higher bond yields.
