Jane Street Capital has established itself as a major player in the Asian block trading market. The firm maintains a significant presence in Hong Kong, occupying over 110,000 square feet of office space across six floors.
The company operates primarily through its Hong Kong and Singapore hubs, employing hundreds of staff in research, engineering, and trading. It is registered as a market maker on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to manage equity and ETF volumes.
Competition in the region is increasing as non-bank electronic market makers, including Jump Trading and IMC Trading, expand their operations. These firms are challenging the traditional dominance of investment banks.
The company faces legal challenges in India, where the Securities and Exchange Board accused it of market manipulation in 2025. The case involves Bank Nifty options and has resulted in a temporary trading ban and the escrow of $560 million.
Jane Street is currently appealing the Indian regulatory findings before the Securities Appellate Tribunal. Meanwhile, the firm's exposure to the mainland Chinese ETF market remains below 2%.
