Jaguar has received over 50,000 registrations of interest for its upcoming electric vehicle lineup. According to managing director Rawdon Glover, approximately 80 percent of these potential customers are new to the brand, indicating a shift away from the company's traditional buyer base.
The transition to an all-electric future is spearheaded by the Type 01, a four-door electric GT. This model marks a significant departure from previous designs and positioning, as Jaguar aims to compete in a more exclusive luxury segment, targeting brands like Bentley rather than traditional premium competitors.
The company acknowledges that its strategy involves a risk, with previous estimates suggesting that up to 85 percent of existing customers might look elsewhere during the transition. Jaguar is focusing on attracting a younger, more affluent demographic that prioritizes design and technology.
Despite speculation regarding a return to internal combustion engines, Jaguar maintains its commitment to an electric-only strategy. The company views the current interest as validation of its move upmarket, though it faces the challenge of converting these registrations into actual sales.
