Intel has decided to keep the One Mono font project active following a period of inactivity. The typeface, which was introduced in 2023, was developed in partnership with Frere-Jones Type and the agency VMLY&R to assist developers with low vision.
The design process involved live testing with legally blind and low-vision programmers to improve character legibility. The font features distinct shapes for similar characters, such as the lowercase e and uppercase G, and includes longer ascenders and descenders.
One Mono supports over 200 languages using the Latin script and is available in four weights: Light, Regular, Medium, and Bold, with matching italics. The font is released under an open-source license, allowing users to modify it freely.
Despite the project seeing no significant updates since 2024 and only minor Readme changes in 2025, Intel has opted against archiving it. The decision marks a reprieve for the font during the company's ongoing efforts to clean up open-source projects.
