Intel has integrated NVIDIA's OpenShell into its AI for Enterprise Agent Toolkit, providing a dedicated policy layer for autonomous agents running on Xeon processors. The tool enables sandboxed execution, YAML-based policy configuration, and kernel-level access controls to manage agent behavior.
The integration allows for granular control over process access and credential management, keeping sensitive data like keys and passwords isolated from agents. It supports live policy updates and maintains audit trails, operating on a default-deny principle where all unauthorized actions are blocked.
The feature is disabled by default and can be activated using the deploy_openshell=on configuration flag. As an additive component, it does not replace existing toolkit elements. OpenShell is an open-source project released by NVIDIA under the Apache-2.0 license.
NVIDIA launched OpenShell on September 28, 2026, as part of its Open Agent Safety Platform. Intel's implementation packages this engine specifically for its server-grade hardware to address security risks associated with autonomous agents interacting directly with system components.
