InstaVolt has officially confirmed that CHAdeMO connectors will remain a permanent feature across its entire fast-charging network in the UK. The company guarantees that at least one such connector will be available at every existing and future charging site.

This decision contrasts with the broader industry trend in Europe, where many manufacturers and charging operators are phasing out the Japanese standard in favor of CCS. For instance, Allego announced in 2023 that it would stop installing new CHAdeMO units.

The company justifies its commitment by citing the needs of thousands of drivers who still rely on CHAdeMO-compatible vehicles. CEO Delvin Lane emphasized that this is a deliberate strategy to support the secondary electric vehicle market, particularly for popular models like the Nissan Leaf.

The announcement coincides with the UK's Used EV Week. InstaVolt maintains that vehicle viability should not be dictated by manufacturer shifts in connector standards, ensuring that owners of older electric cars retain access to daily commuting and long-distance travel infrastructure.
