iFixit has released a teardown of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, revealing internal hardware updates. The eSIM-only models feature a 4288mAh battery for the Pro and 5567mAh for the Pro Max, representing a 0.8% and 9.4% increase respectively compared to the previous generation.

The devices introduce a 48MP Fusion main camera with a mechanical variable aperture, allowing switching between f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and f/4.0. The cooling system has been upgraded with a vapor chamber that is approximately three times the surface area of the iPhone 17 Pro, paired with a redesigned A20 Pro chip packaging.

Apple has relocated the Face ID infrared camera under the display, which has reduced the size of the Dynamic Island. The new layout allows the Dynamic Island to display up to three live activities simultaneously, compared to two on the previous generation.

The teardown revealed potential durability issues, as three out of four units tested exhibited cracking or detachment of the plastic screen bezel during disassembly. iFixit noted this as a new issue not previously encountered in earlier iPhone models.

Despite the internal changes, the repairability score for the iPhone 18 Pro series has slightly improved. The overall repairability index is 3.14, up from 3.04 for the iPhone 17 Pro, with the disassembly depth score rising to 2.75 and the tool score to 2.55.
