Infineon has introduced a new reference design for a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 PCIe add-in card, supporting data transfer speeds of 20 Gbps. The solution is specifically engineered to facilitate the adoption of high-speed USB-C interfaces within industrial environments.

The hardware features a PCIe Gen4 x4 upstream interface and integrates the ASMedia ASM4242 USB4 host controller alongside Infineon's EZ-PD CCG7 USB PD controller. The downstream side provides two USB-C ports, each capable of delivering 36W of power output.

The design supports signal transmission at 20 Gbps over passive cables up to 5 meters in length. Infineon aims to address technical hurdles related to signal integrity and power management that previously limited the use of 20 Gbps USB standards in industrial settings.

By simplifying the implementation of high-speed, high-power connectivity, the reference design is intended for use in machine vision systems. It provides system developers with a reliable framework for integrating USB-C 20 Gbps technology into complex industrial hardware.
