Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, has spent a year evaluating the Avalanche blockchain. The testing aims to determine if the technology can support an on-chain Alternative Trading System (ATS) for tokenized stocks.
The proposed system would integrate the NYSE Pillar matching engine with blockchain infrastructure to facilitate 24/7 trading and instant settlement using stablecoins. This would shift settlement times from the current T+1 standard to T+0.
Ava Labs President Charley Cooper and ICE Vice President of Strategic Planning Michael Blaugrund discussed the ongoing collaboration at the Avalanche Summit held on September 16–17. Despite the year-long evaluation, ICE has not yet made a formal technology selection.
ICE currently operates 12 exchanges and six clearing houses globally. While the company has not provided a launch timeline for the ATS, the project remains subject to regulatory oversight by the SEC regarding the infrastructure for tokenized securities.
