Hyundai is currently testing a new camouflaged compact electric SUV in South Korea. The prototype features a boxy design, which distinguishes it from the recently launched IONIQ 3, which utilizes an Aero Hatch style. Industry observers suggest the vehicle may be the upcoming IONIQ 4 or potentially the IONIQ 1.

The test vehicle carries an HE1 tag, which follows the company's internal labeling conventions for E-GMP platform models. Earlier reports from March identified a similar prototype with the same designation. The interior of the vehicle appears to incorporate the new Pleos Connect infotainment system.

The new model is expected to share design and technical characteristics with the Kia EV3. The Kia EV3 is currently available with 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh battery packs. These configurations provide a WLTP range of up to 497 km and an EPA-estimated range of up to 321 miles depending on the specific battery capacity.

This development aligns with Hyundai's broader strategy announced during its CEO Investor Day in August. The company plans to introduce 100 new or refreshed vehicles by 2030 across global markets, including North America, South Korea, Europe, and India. The roadmap includes a new electric A-SUV for India and two B-SUV models.
