Hyundai has officially cancelled its plans to introduce the IONIQ 3 electric hatchback to the Australian market. The company removed the model's landing page from its local website, citing high importation costs as the primary reason for the decision.
The vehicle is manufactured at Hyundai's plant in Izmit, Turkey. According to a company spokesperson, the logistics and production costs make it difficult for the model to compete in Australia's price-sensitive segment against lower-priced Chinese electric vehicles.
The IONIQ 3 was initially expected to launch in Australia in early 2027 with a starting price of approximately AUD 40 000. In comparison, competitors like the BYD Dolphin are available in the region starting from AUD 28 888.
The hatchback remains available in other markets, including the UK and Europe. In the UK, the model starts at £18 495, while European pricing is approximately €28 950. The vehicle is offered with 42 kWh and 61 kWh battery options.
