At the 2026 Kirin Media Briefing held in Shanghai on October 13, Huawei introduced the Kirin 9050 series. The company highlighted the chip's enhanced security features, noting it is among the first mobile SoCs to receive official certification for quantum-resistant capabilities. The platform supports post-quantum cryptography and integrates a mobile security processor with a dedicated security chip to protect data, privacy, and communications.
The Kirin 9050 series also features significant upgrades in audio and video processing. By utilizing heterogeneous computing between the DSP and NPU, alongside FFTS low-latency scheduling and H.266 hardware video decoding, the chip aims to improve call quality and video playback performance. These technical improvements are designed to enhance audio clarity and reduce power consumption during media playback.
During the event, Xu Songyu, head of the wireless terminal chip product management department at Huawei's semiconductor division, provided an update on the company's roadmap. He confirmed that the next-generation Kirin 2027 chip is already prepared. According to the company, all current test results for the upcoming hardware meet expectations, ensuring a sustainable development path for the next decade.
