Huawei has officially reintroduced the Smart Rotation feature in its newly released Mate 90 series, which debuted on October 1. This functionality, originally launched with the Mate 30 series in 2019, uses facial orientation to determine screen orientation, preventing unwanted rotation when a user is lying down.

The feature was previously available on flagship models such as the P40 series, Mate 40 series, and the P50 Pro, but was absent from devices starting with the Mate 50. Users can now enable it through the settings menu on the Mate 90 series. The system operates independently of the gravity sensor used for gaming or navigation.

Alongside the return of Smart Rotation, Huawei is restoring other intelligent sensing capabilities, including air gestures for screenshots and scrolling, as well as smart always-on display features. The company has also introduced new functions in recent years, such as air transmission and intelligent grip sensing.

In August 2025, Huawei demonstrated its air transmission technology at the United Nations. During the event, CCTV reporter Xu Dezhi showcased the capability to UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric and international media representatives, highlighting the company's ongoing development of gesture-based control systems.
