China UnionPay has announced that the Huawei Mate 90 series will feature an updated Huawei Pay system. The new integration allows users to top up their Hong Kong Octopus cards directly through the smartphone's built-in wallet application.

This functionality aligns with the capabilities already available on the Mate 80 series and Pura X models, which currently support Octopus card integration. Users can utilize these digital cards for public transport, retail purchases, dining, and entertainment services across Hong Kong.

The Octopus card, introduced in September 1997, utilizes NFC technology for contactless payments. It is widely accepted across various sectors, including government services, retail chains like 7-Eleven and Watsons, and public transit systems, supporting both mobile and wearable devices.
