Huawei has confirmed that its Ruiying Z10 external camera module is designed for long-term compatibility beyond the current Mate 90 series. While the device currently supports the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition and RS Ultimate Design, the manufacturer has engineered the mounting system to accommodate future smartphone models.
According to Li Xiaolong, CTO of Huawei's consumer division, the H1 and H2 lens mounts feature a removable adapter ring. This component is located around the grip and can be replaced manually without specialized tools. This modular approach allows users to adapt the camera to new phone form factors simply by swapping the adapter ring.
The company plans to expand the range of smartphones compatible with the Ruiying system. Evidence of this strategy appeared in a previously leaked patent image, which depicted the module attached to a device featuring a triangular camera block, similar to those found on Pura series handsets.
Despite the modular design, users have reported a compatibility issue with the current iteration of the accessory. Owners of the Ruiying Z10 for the Mate 90 series discovered that standard 62 mm filters do not fit the camera, even though the lens cap size corresponds to that diameter.
