Huawei has introduced a new 'Find Friends' feature for its NearLink wireless communication technology, integrated within the MeeTime application. This functionality is currently available in the HarmonyOS 7.0 update.

The initial rollout includes the Mate XT 2 and Pura X View smartphones. Users can locate friends if they are within a 500-meter range in open outdoor areas or specific locations with precise positioning, or within the NearLink connection range.

The feature allows users to tap a friend's avatar to receive navigation guidance. It also supports using the smartphone camera to assist in calibrating direction and distance, simplifying meetups in crowded environments like shopping malls.

Huawei plans to expand support to more devices, with expectations that all models compatible with the NearLink E2.0 standard will eventually receive the update. Final device compatibility will be confirmed through future OTA releases.

NearLink is Huawei's proprietary wireless technology designed for short-range data transmission, intended to compete with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. In June 2026, the company announced the full open-sourcing of the NearLink protocol stack.
