The HSE Center for Digital Technologies for Natural and Climate Projects has launched a web application designed to evaluate biochar production initiatives. The tool allows users to calculate potential carbon credit yields, estimate required agricultural land area, and forecast project investment needs and economic outcomes.

The application is hosted on a digital platform developed by HSE experts with support from the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. It is intended for project developers, investors, and agricultural or forestry enterprises exploring the use of plant residues for biochar production.

The software enables users to model project parameters by selecting specific raw materials, equipment types, and operational durations. It also incorporates logistics factors, such as transport distances for raw materials and finished biochar, alongside economic variables like discount rates and inflation levels.

Users can conduct calculations based on different carbon credit registries and price forecasts. According to HSE representative Viktor Proskuryakov, the tool helps identify the scale and duration required to make a project economically viable, though results remain preliminary and do not replace formal feasibility studies.
