The Honor Robot Phone has been recognized in Time magazine's 2026 Best Inventions list, appearing in the robotics category. It stands as the only Chinese smartphone brand to receive this distinction this year.
The device features a 360-degree rotating gimbal for its rear camera. When activated, the module extends from the back of the phone and utilizes AI software to track moving subjects. The camera also follows users during selfie mode and retracts flush with the panel when not in use.
Thomas Bai, an AI product expert at Honor, noted that the gimbal mechanism required the development of custom micro-motors and the integration of over 100 new components. Time magazine described the device as a phone camera that follows the user.
Time has published its Best Inventions list annually since 2000, typically selecting around 300 inventions and 100 special mentions across sectors like AI, consumer electronics, and robotics. Honor has now been featured on the list for three consecutive years.
