Honor has officially announced that its upcoming Magic9 series smartphones will feature a 55-megapixel front-facing camera, marketed as the 'Lingdong Eye.' This device marks the first implementation of a square-format front camera sensor in the Android ecosystem, designed to provide a more flexible framing experience for users.

Fang Fei, President of the Product Line at Honor, confirmed that the sensor offers a 1:1 aspect ratio and a 92-degree field of view. The square sensor design allows users to capture images regardless of how they hold the phone, effectively removing the traditional orientation constraints between portrait and landscape shooting modes.

The high-resolution sensor is intended to maintain image detail while providing a wider field of view. The 1:1 full-frame capture capability is specifically engineered to offer greater flexibility for subsequent cropping, ensuring that users can achieve their desired composition without losing significant image quality.

The company has scheduled the official launch event for the Magic9 series, known as the Honor Magic Ceremony, to take place on September 28 in Beijing. This event will serve as the platform for the full introduction of the new smartphone lineup and its imaging capabilities.
